CHICAGO — Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal has hired Benjamin Weinberg as its new partner in charge of pro bono work following the departure earlier this year of Terry Norton, who held the post previously.

Weinberg, 44, is joining Sonnenschein from the Office of the Illinois Attorney General, where he was chief of the public interest division, the law firm said in a release. Before working for the state, Weinberg was a partner at Jenner & Block in Chicago and served on that law firm's pro bono committee.

Many firms have now appointed certain partners to oversee such work.

For instance Choate, Hall & Stewart just named its first full-time hiring and pro bono partner in April.

Weinberg will be based in the firm's Chicago office, which is Sonnenschein's largest office. The firm logged about 48,000 pro bono hours last year, according to the release.
